Ralph's Surreal Descent

2019

Nobody quite knows who Ralph is; where he's from, or how he made his money. This story traces Ralph's unlikely history.. This composition was inspired by moment form, specifically Telemusick, a non-linear compositional form with each moment unique to its self, not relative to what has come before it. It's a philosophical reaction to linear form structure and how it's related to time and space.

Six Billion Screams

2020
Interpreting messages from the not so distant future, this composition explores the devastating impacts of climate change in 2050. Drawing on the research of James Lovelock, David Wallace-Wells, Tom Rivett-Carnac, Christiana Figueres & more, I present an audio scape of a future on the brink of collapse. The overtone series allows the listener to tune in to radio transmissions that are a stark warning sign.

The Faces

Composition by Alex Cook
Poetry by Daniel John Tasker
2020

The Faces is an absurdist sonic melodrama, an electro-acoustic composition in two versions: one as a 30 minute stereo piece, the other is a festival version split into a two-part cycle, intended for quadrophonic sound systems. The Faces cycle was inspired by Karlheinz Stockhausen's seven-cycle opera ‘Aus Licht’, and its dramatic use of narrative, electro-acoustic art, and his super formula compositional theory.
